Dehradun: A major scam under the Ayushman Bharat scheme has come to light in Uttarakhand. During an ongoing verification drive, thousands of Ayushman cards issued through fake ration cards have been detected.

Out of the total 3.88 lakh ration cards in the district, only 75,576 have been verified so far. During this process, 3,323 cards were cancelled, and 1.36 lakh were found inactive. Over 13,000 Ayushman cards were issued using these fake or inactive ration cards, of which 9,428 have already been revoked.

Going forward, before issuing a new ration card, supply inspectors will visit applicants` homes to assess their financial condition. This step aims to prevent misuse of government welfare schemes.

Meanwhile, the State Health Authority and police are jointly investigating how many people received treatment using these fake cards and how much government money was spent.

There is growing suspicion that a larger organized network may be behind the scam. The government has taken serious note of the matter and indicated strict action against those involved.
