The Uttarakhand government is set to launch a heli shuttle service between Badrinath and Joshimath, modeled after the successful operations in Kedarnath. A proposal for the same has been submitted to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, and the Centre has responded positively.

Initially, the government had planned to start a helicopter service between Gauchar and Badrinath, but that could not materialize. Now, the new plan focuses on operating the service between Joshimath and Badrinath, a shorter and more cost-effective route for pilgrims.

The state has also proposed additional helicopter services from Dehradun to Joshimath, Pithoragarh to Dharchula, and Dharchula to Munsyari. Every year, heli services operate to Kedarnath during the Char Dham Yatra from locations like Guptkashi, Phata, and Sersi. Now, a similar model is being prepared for Badrinath.

Gyrocopter Services May Soon Expand

To further promote tourism, the state government has also requested the Centre to grant commercial licenses for gyrocopter operations. These are planned to be launched in Dehradun, Pithoragarh, and Chinyalisaur. A successful pilot project has already been conducted on the Haridwar to Devprayag route, and now the government aims to launch regular services with proper licensing.

Officials believe that these air connectivity projects will not only make the Char Dham Yatra more accessible and safer but also boost tourism in the hill state.
