The Dehradun administration has launched a crackdown on illegally operated pet shops, dog breeding centers, and meat shops. Taking serious note of the issue, District Magistrate Savin Bansal has directed the formation of a special committee to survey these establishments and submit a report within 15 days.

The decision came during an Animal Cruelty Prevention Committee meeting held at Rishiparna Auditorium. DM Bansal emphasized mandatory registration of all pet shops and breeders in the city and ordered the immediate closure of unlicensed units.

A joint team headed by the SDM, including officials from the Municipal Corporation, Veterinary Department, and Food Safety Department, will survey illegal meat shops and dairies in urban areas.

Stray Dogs and Injured Animals

Concerned about the rising number of stray dogs, the DM instructed officials to expedite sterilization drives. He also approved two special vehicles for transporting injured or sick animals, with manpower to be arranged through the PRD. Departments have been asked to ensure timely treatment, vaccination, and availability of medicines.

Two New Cow Shelters Planned

Within a month, two new cow shelters will be set up in rural areas. Stray animals from municipal and district panchayat areas will be relocated to shelters, kanji houses, or care homes for proper care.
