Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the statue and memorial site of the country`s first CDS General Padma Vibhushan Bipin Rawat in Dehradun.

On this occasion, Shri Dhami said that this grand statue and memorial site will serve as a reminder of the bravery, indomitable courage and bravery of General Bipin Rawat and will become a source of inspiration for the youth. The statue and memorial site of CDS General Rawat has been constructed by MDDA at a cost of rupees 50 lakhs.

Paying tributes to CDS General Bipin Rawat, the Chief Minister said that the irreparable loss caused to the country by his sudden death could never be recovered. He said that Uttarakhand is a military-dominated state and the soldiers of Uttarakhand have made a special contribution in the glorious history of the Indian Army. Joining the army has been a major priority for the youth of Uttarakhand. Military service is not just an employment opportunity for us, but also an excellent opportunity to dedicate life for the country and society, Shri Dhami said.

Praising selfless service of late General Bipin Rawat, Shri Dhami said that for nearly four decades his service towards motherland was replete with extraordinary valor and strategic skill. Till the last day of his life, he lived for the country and his becoming the Chief of Army Staff and the first CDS clearly shows how capable a general he was, Shri Dhami said. Special efforts were done by General Rawat for the modernization of all the three services of the army and to make the country self-reliant in the field of defense needs, he said.

Chief Minister added that General Rawat’s leadership was commendable during the surgical strike. “His exemplary contribution and commitment cannot be described in words. Under his leadership, the Indian Army established new paradigms of bravery. Along with the country, he also had great attachment to Uttarakhand,” the chief minister said.

Shri Dhami said that in order to keep the memory of General Vipin Rawat alive, a major project would be named after him in the near future.
