The dream of Dehradun residents for the Neo Metro seems to be hanging in the balance. The ambitious project of the Uttarakhand Metro Rail Corporation (UKMRC) has failed to attract any bidders, leaving its future uncertain.

The Rishikesh-Neelkanth Ropeway and Haridwar Pod Taxi projects are facing similar setbacks. The ropeway project was denied approval by the forest department, while no company showed interest in the pod taxi project.

The cost of the Neo Metro has surged from ₹1,852 crore to over ₹2,300 crore, prompting the central government to step back. Companies are hesitant to invest due to discrepancies between projected and actual passenger numbers.

Several senior officials associated with the project have been removed, increasing instability. With no clear path forward, the vision of a modern transportation system in Uttarakhand remains uncertain.
