In a significant step to promote Indian culture, the Uttarakhand government led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced a landmark decision. Moving forward, all official notifications, gazette publications, inauguration plaques, and foundation stones in the state will prominently mention not only the Gregorian date and year but also the Vikram Samvat and corresponding Hindu month (such as Phalguna, Chaitra, Krishna Paksha/Shukla Paksha).

CM Dhami has directed the Chief Secretary to issue necessary orders to the General Administration Department to ensure immediate implementation of this directive. Highlighting the cultural significance, Dhami stated that the Vikram Samvat is an inseparable part of Indian tradition and integrating it into official proceedings is an effort to reinforce cultural roots.

This is not the first time the Dhami government has taken steps to preserve and promote Uttarakhand’s rich cultural heritage. The state administration has previously introduced several initiatives aimed at strengthening traditional values and practices.

Experts have hailed this decision as a milestone move, which is likely to revive interest in the Indian calendar system and traditional time reckoning methods. It is expected to bring a visible reflection of Indian ethos in government functioning and foster a deeper cultural connection, especially among the younger generation.
