Dehradun: Under the guidance of Chief Electoral Officer Dr. B.V.R.C. Purushottam, a large-scale plantation and voter awareness campaign will be launched across the state from June 5 to July, coinciding with World Environment Day. The campaign aims to plant 2 lakh saplings at over 11,700 polling booths throughout the state.

Additional Chief Electoral Officer Dr. Vijay Kumar Jogdande, during a meeting with officials at the Secretariat, stated that a minimum of 10 plants will be planted at each polling booth. The plantation drive will actively involve the oldest, new, and women voters at each booth. After planting, local people will be engaged to ensure the proper care and maintenance of the saplings, promoting environmental conservation.

Dr. Jogdande added that this campaign is linked with the folk festival Harela and will continue throughout July. The theme for voter awareness in June is "Every Drop of Rain, Every Vote Counts," and for July, it is "Message of Harela, Vote Becomes Special." Under these themes, a widespread campaign will be conducted across all districts through District Magistrates and Chief Development Officers.

Additionally, the CEO office will organize an online competition on social media to encourage voters participating in the plantation drive, with active participants being rewarded.

This initiative aims not only to strengthen environmental protection but also to enhance voter awareness, thereby helping to empower democracy.
