Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government has urged the Centre for a special package of ₹5,702.15 crore to repair monsoon damages and strengthen disaster-prone infrastructure.

A memorandum to the Union home ministry highlighted losses of ₹1,944.15 crore between April and August due to landslides, flash floods, and heavy rain. Roads and rural works suffered the worst hit at ₹1,163.84 crore, followed by irrigation at ₹266.65 crore.

The state has sought funds for both recovery and preventive measures, including stabilizing roads, bridges, and populated areas. “This support is critical to minimize recurring disaster impacts,” said disaster management secretary Vinod Kumar Suman.

So far, the monsoon has claimed 79 lives, left 115 injured, 90 missing, and killed nearly 4,000 livestock. Over 3,200 houses and commercial units have also been damaged.

The IMD reported 25% above-normal rainfall this season, with Bageshwar recording 249% excess. Several other districts saw major surpluses, fueling floods and landslides across the state.
