Rishikesh: The Central Government has approved a major project worth ₹547.83 crore to modernize the power infrastructure of Rishikesh, Haridwar, and Dehradun. Under this plan, overhead power lines in key markets and main roads of Rishikesh will be shifted underground, while the power systems in the Rishikesh Kumbh area (Ganga Corridor) and the three cities will be automated through SCADA technology.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the approval, stating that underground cabling will remove the web of wires from congested areas, enhance the city’s aesthetics, and ensure a more stable power supply. It will also reduce the chances of outages during disasters or adverse weather, lower maintenance costs, and provide better facilities to residents.

According to the Uttarakhand Government, this project will usher the state’s power infrastructure into a new era.
