CBI Brings Back Wanted Fugitive from UAE to Uttarakhand

Dehradun: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in close coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and UAE authorities, has successfully facilitated the return of wanted fugitive Jagdish Punetha to India on 13 November 2025.

Punetha, accused of fraud and criminal conspiracy in FIR No. 239/2021 registered at Pithoragarh Police Station, had fled to the UAE to evade arrest. Acting on a request from Uttarakhand Police, the CBI enabled the issuance of an INTERPOL Red Notice on 06 May 2025, which paved the way for tracing and apprehending him abroad.

A team of Uttarakhand Police subsequently travelled to the UAE, took custody of the accused, and brought him back to New Delhi.

As India’s National Central Bureau for INTERPOL, the CBI coordinates with domestic agencies through BHARATPOL. In recent years, more than 150 fugitives have been successfully brought back to India through such international cooperation.
