A nine-year-old girl playing in the courtyard of her house was taken by a leopard. Three hours after the incident, the half-eaten body of the girl was found in the bushes about 30 meters from the house, causing chaos in the village.

Rukm Singh`s nine-year-old daughter, Poonam, a resident of Bhaud village in Hindav Patti, was playing alone in the courtyard after coming home from school. Her three other siblings were inside the house. The children`s mother, Usha Devi, had gone to perform Jalabhishek in the Shivalaya. When the mother returned home from the temple at around four in the evening, Poonam was not found at home. Poonam`s elder sister, Priyanka, and younger siblings, Prince and Aradhya, were sleeping in the room. When Usha Devi searched around, she couldn`t find Poonam anywhere. Other villagers joined the search and found Poonam`s slippers and blood stains on the path a short distance from the house.
