Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, in the 21st meeting of the State Wildlife Board, approved 25 key proposals, including forest land transfer within 10 km of protected areas. These proposals will now be sent to the National Wildlife Board.

The Chief Minister emphasized balancing ecology and economy, promoting eco-tourism near forest zones, and implementing a digital tracking system for quick compensation in human-wildlife conflict cases. He also directed fast-tracking the Haldwani zoo and safari project, modernizing forest rest houses, and speeding up the renovation of Chaurasi Kutiya in Rishikesh.

Forest Minister Subodh Uniyal highlighted the importance of linking forest resources to local livelihoods through sustainable use.

Over 75,000 monkeys have been sterilized in the past three years, with a target of 40,000 more this year. Around ₹19.55 crore was distributed as compensation for wildlife-related incidents in FY 2024-25.

Approval was also given for managing the Rudranath route via EDC and establishing a Mini Transit Treatment Centre in Kedarnath Wildlife Division.

These decisions mark a major step in wildlife conservation and eco-tourism development in the state.
