Dehradun: The Indian Military Academy (IMA) held its 156th Passing Out Parade today, reviewed by Lieutenant General BKGM Lasantha Rodrigo, Commander of the Sri Lanka Army and proud IMA alumnus — the first to return in this capacity.

A total of 451 Officer Cadets, including members from the 156 Regular Course, 45 Technical Entry Scheme, 139 Technical Graduate Course, SCO-54, and 32 cadets from nine friendly foreign countries, were commissioned, marking a major milestone in their military careers.

In a stirring address, Lt Gen Rodrigo recalled his own IMA days and urged cadets to lead with honour, discipline, integrity, and loyalty. “Today, you don’t just wear a rank — you embrace a way of life,” he said. Quoting the IMA Credo, he reminded them of their three core duties — to the Nation, their Soldiers, and the Families of the Bravehearts.

He praised the cadets’ precision and turnout, describing the parade as a testament to their training and determination. The General also commended the foreign cadets as ambassadors of IMA’s timeless values that transcend borders.

Lt Gen Rodrigo concluded by encouraging the cadets to serve with courage and conviction, leaving them with Field Marshal Manekshaw’s timeless words: “Be truthful, be honest, be fearless.”
