India Biggest Wildlife Meet Held in Dehradun
Dehradun: The Indian Conservation Conference (ICCON 2025) concluded at the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun, bringing together over 500 wildlife researchers, conservationists, forest officials, and policymakers from across the country and abroad.
Inaugurated by Union Environment Minister Shri Bhupender Yadav, the three-day event featured pre-conference workshops, technical sessions, and plenary talks aimed at advancing collaborative, data-driven conservation.
Dr. Mahesh Sankaran (NCBS) opened the final day with insights on climate–biodiversity links in savanna ecosystems, while Dr. Akanksha Rathore showcased the use of AI tools in wildlife research. Dr. Manoj Nair, IFS, emphasized the need for integrating technology into conservation governance.
A TechBridge session highlighted innovations from A&S Creations, Pardus Wild-tech LLP, and IIT Roorkee, presenting tools for wildlife tracking and data visualization. A&S Creations also sponsored the ICCON 2025 Equipment Grant, supporting eight young researchers with Rs. 25,000 each.
Among the awardees was Sarika Baidya, working on the endangered Bhutan Glory butterfly. “Support like this is rare and vital for lesser-known species,” she said.
The conference concluded with a closing ceremony led by Organising Secretary Dr. Bilal Habib and WII Dean Dr. Ruchi Badola, who emphasized the event’s role in bridging research, policy, and practice.
WII Director Shri Virendra Tiwari stated, "ICCON 2025 reaffirms WII’s commitment to nurturing conservation leadership and fostering scientific dialogue at scale."
