Uttarakhand is set to transform its agriculture and horticulture landscape with a proposed financial support of ₹3800 crore from the central government. This decision received in-principle approval during a meeting between Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in New Delhi.

The Chief Minister stated that the state has prepared comprehensive plans to modernize agriculture by incorporating innovation, mechanization, technology, and traditional practices. Key proposals include ₹1052.80 crore for protecting crops from wild animals in hilly regions, ₹400 crore for farmers` machinery banks, and ₹134.89 crore under the State Millet Mission to promote coarse grains.

Plans worth ₹1150 crore have been proposed to boost the production, storage, and marketing of apples, while ₹894 crore is earmarked for promoting cash crops like kiwi and ensuring crop protection. A ₹42 crore plan has also been laid out to encourage low-risk crops such as dragon fruit.

Additionally, ₹885.10 crore has been proposed to promote innovation and startups in the agriculture sector. For organic farming, ₹36.50 crore will be allocated to set up testing laboratories, and ₹378 crore is planned for digitization and modernization of land records.

The Chief Minister also requested central support for developing high-quality nurseries, cold storage facilities, sorting and grading units, a kiwi-dragon fruit mission, superfood excellence centers, and an agro-tourism school at Pantnagar Agricultural University.
