Dehradun: In a major boost to Uttarakhand’s agri-exports, the first trial shipment of 1.2 metric tonnes of Garhwali Apples (King Roat variety) from Pauri Garhwal was flagged off from Dehradun to Dubai today. The initiative was facilitated by the Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry.

The shipment was flagged off by Shri Sunil Barthwal, Secretary, Department of Commerce, who said the trial would help refine cold-chain logistics and export frameworks, enabling more farmer groups to tap global markets. He emphasized the importance of diversifying India’s agri-export basket with region-specific produce like Garhwali apples, kiwi, litchi, basmati rice, millets, honey, and vegetables.

To further strengthen exports, APEDA will soon open its regional office in Dehradun at UPASAK Bhawan, Sahastradhara Road. It is also working on organic certification, GI tagging, and export trials with Lulu Group’s international retail chains. Plantation drives for aromatic and medicinal plants have also begun, with 2,200 Timru saplings planted in Pauri.

During FY 2024–25, India’s agri-exports under APEDA stood at ₹2.43 lakh crore, while Uttarakhand contributed ₹201 crore. Officials from APEDA and the state government attended the event, reaffirming their commitment to expanding Uttarakhand’s footprint in global agri-markets.
