Dehradun: Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday directed strict action against drug peddlers and mafias in the state. Chairing a meeting with senior police and administrative officials, the CM asked the Anti-Narcotic Task Force to step up night checks, tighten vigilance in border areas, and ensure effective action against offenders.

Dhami also instructed officials to widely promote the state’s drug-free helpline 1933 and to strengthen awareness programmes. Joint workshops will be organised by health, education, police, social welfare, and youth welfare departments, while the number of de-addiction centres will be increased and equipped with modern facilities.

Meanwhile, under Operation Kalanemi, launched to curb fraud and anti-social activities, over 4,000 people have been verified and more than 300 arrested. The campaign has been most effective in Haridwar (162 arrests), Dehradun (113 arrests), and Udham Singh Nagar (17 arrests).
