Dehradun: In a major boost to Indo-German cooperation, the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee played a key academic role in the signing of a Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI) between the Government of Uttarakhand and the German state of Brandenburg.

The declaration lays the foundation for structured state-to-state collaboration in science, technology, innovation and higher education, with IIT Roorkee and the University of Potsdam acting as academic and coordinating partners.

The partnership will focus on priority areas such as clean energy and hydrogen technologies, disaster resilience, digital and drone technologies, advanced manufacturing, and applications of data science and artificial intelligence in governance and healthcare.

Plans under the JDI include joint research projects, academic exchange and joint degree programmes, promotion of Indo-German start-ups, and cultural exchanges. A Joint Task Force will be formed to prepare a roadmap and work towards a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding.

The agreement marks an important step in strengthening regional academic and innovation ties between India and Germany.
