Dehradun: Uttarakhand has launched a statewide HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccination drive to prevent cervical cancer. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the national campaign virtually from Ajmer, Rajasthan, with the state-level launch held in Dehradun.

At Gandhi Shatabdi Hospital, Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.), Health Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Bansal and MLA Khajan Das flagged off the campaign. A total of 29 adolescent girls received the first dose at the model vaccination centre.

In the first phase, 155 HPV vaccination centres have been identified across government health institutions in the state. The vaccine will be administered to eligible 14-year-old girls to ensure protection before possible infection.

The Governor described the initiative as a significant and forward-looking step toward safeguarding women’s health and urged all health centres to actively participate in the campaign.
