In a significant development, tribal areas in Uttarakhand with a population exceeding 100 are set to be connected by roads, reaping benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Tribal Justice Maha Abhiyan (PM Janman) initiative.

Launched nationwide on November 15, the scheme has already seen the establishment of four roads and eight bridges in Uttarakhand. The Uttarakhand Rural Road Development Agency (URRDA), serving as the nodal agency for the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, is spearheading the construction efforts for these vital infrastructural projects.

The initiative targets the improvement of connectivity for the state`s five tribes—Bhotia, Tharu, Jaunsari, Boxa, and Raji—declared Scheduled Tribes in 1967, with a specific focus on the particularly vulnerable tribal groups (PVTGs) Boxa and Raji.

Currently, the detailed project reports (DPR) for these roads and bridges are in progress, marking a crucial step toward enhanced accessibility and development in these tribal areas.
