Commissioner Garhwal Visits Disaster Relief Camp at Vinak Khal

In a bid to assess the ongoing relief efforts and address the concerns of the affected residents, Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey visited the disaster-stricken areas of Tingarh village and Budhakedar on Monday. During his visit, he conducted a thorough inspection of the situation and interacted with the villagers and officials at the temporary relief camp set up at Government Inter College Vinak Khal.

Commissioner Pandey announced that, following directives from the Chief Minister, an initial fund of ₹8 crore has been approved for road safety works on the damaged banks of Balganga and Dharam Ganga in Budhakedar. He instructed the Superintending Engineer of Irrigation to provide the necessary estimates to the District Magistrate of Tehri immediately and to commence the tender process promptly.

While inspecting the relief camp, Commissioner Pandey emphasized the importance of ensuring that the disaster victims face no hardships. He issued directives for the provision of power backup, television, children’s educational facilities, and livelihood support within the camp. Additionally, he instructed District Magistrate Tehri to arrange alternative accommodations for the victims and to establish shelters for animals at five designated locations, ensuring proper fodder and water supply for them.

Commissioner Pandey highlighted that a geological survey for the rehabilitation of Tingarh village has been completed and received in-principle approval. He directed the formation of a joint team of villagers and officials to identify suitable land for rehabilitation. The relocation of residents will be prioritized based on land availability. The second phase of rehabilitation, focusing on Toli village, will proceed based on the survey report.

District Magistrate Mayur Dixit provided updates on the relief efforts, stating that the displacement process for 28 families in Kot village is underway, with the first installment of aid being distributed on Monday. He also mentioned that a zoological survey of all affected villages is in progress to further assist in the relief and rehabilitation efforts.
