The Uttarakhand government has taken a major step toward implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). In a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the proposal for UCC regulations was approved. CM Dhami described it as a historic moment for the state, stating that Uttarakhand would be the first state in the country to implement the UCC.

The Chief Minister said, "In 2022, we promised the public to bring UCC, and now we are fulfilling it. All the processes have been completed, and it will be implemented soon."

Before the official implementation, a state-wide mock drill for UCC will be conducted on January 21. During this exercise, registrars and other officials will use the web portal to practice the registration of services like marriage, divorce, live-in relationships, and wills. The objective of the mock drill is to ensure that citizens do not face any technical issues once the UCC is officially implemented.

The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) aims to establish a common legal framework for matters such as marriage, divorce, wills, and other civil issues, applicable to all citizens regardless of their religion or community.

The Uttarakhand government is in the final stages of implementing UCC, which is expected to bring a unified legal system to the state soon.
