STF Busts International Cyber Fraud Racket in Dehradun, 13 Arrested

Uttarakhand STF, along with the Cyber Crime Unit and Patel Nagar Police, has busted a major international cyber fraud racket. A raid was conducted at an illegal call center in Chaman Vihar, Saharanpur Road, leading to the arrest of 13 individuals.

The accused posed as officials from Microsoft and Apple, sending fake pop-up messages to people in the US and Canada. These messages falsely claimed that the victims had accessed pornographic websites or that their system was infected with a virus. When the victims called for assistance, the fraudsters used the X-LITE dialer to mislead them and tricked them into downloading Anydesk, Team Viewer, and Ultra Viewer, gaining access to their systems and extorting money.

Seized items include 13 laptops, 02 Wi-Fi routers, 03 switches, 10 headphones, and 04 mobile phones, along with various other electronic devices. Fake scripts and documents used for fraud were also confiscated.

A case has been registered under the IT Act and multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code. The STF has urged the public to report any information regarding such illegal call centers to the police immediately.
