Uttarakhand Launches Statewide Pharma Inspection Drive
The Uttarakhand government has initiated a statewide crackdown on substandard and counterfeit medicines. Under the leadership of Additional Commissioner Tajbar Singh Jaggi, a rigorous inspection campaign is underway across drug stores, warehouses, and manufacturing units. Suspicious samples are being collected and sent for laboratory testing. Immediate action is being taken against any substandard medicines found.
Joint Raids and Arrests
In collaboration with the CDSCO and drug regulators from other states, the department has conducted 83 joint raids, registered 53 criminal cases, and arrested 89 individuals, including members of inter-state drug rackets. As a result, 33 manufacturing units were ordered to stop production, and over 65 individuals have been booked under the NDPS Act.
Protecting Uttarakhand’s Reputation
Several elements were found misusing the names of Uttarakhand-based pharma companies to produce fake drugs in other states. Strict action has been taken to safeguard the integrity and credibility of the state’s pharmaceutical industry.
100% Sampling and Strict Surveillance
As part of a “risk-based inspection” policy, 100% sampling is being conducted from all manufacturing units. The department has made it clear: there is zero tolerance for counterfeit drugs in Uttarakhand.
Future Strategy
The Drug Control Department is implementing a digital tracking system to monitor the supply chain from production to sale. Public awareness campaigns and training for health workers are also being conducted to help identify and report suspicious drugs. Despite limited staff and resources, the department continues vigilant monitoring throughout the state.
Tajbar Singh Jaggi reaffirmed that only authentic, safe, and effective medicines will be made available to the people of Uttarakhand.
