Dehradun: Following a series of helicopter accidents this season, Uttarakhand is set to implement major technical reforms in its heli services. Acting on DGCA directives, the Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA) is preparing to install an Air Traffic Control (ATC) station and PTZ surveillance cameras.

Key reforms include setting up an ATC center in areas like Kedarnath valley, installing PTZ cameras to monitor heli routes, using MATs and ceilometers for accurate weather data, and giving flight priority to experienced pilots in tough terrains.

This season, five helicopter incidents have been reported, three of which involved casualties. Preliminary findings from the Gangotri accident reveal technical error, while investigations into the other two incidents are ongoing.

The procurement of all necessary equipment will be completed within the next 10–15 days, with implementation set to begin in October. These changes aim to make heli services in Uttarakhand safer and more efficient.
