Uttarakhand STF Busts ₹87 Lakh Digital Arrest Scam
Dehradun: Uttarakhand STF’s Cyber Crime Unit has arrested the key mastermind of the nationwide ‘Digital Arrest’ scam, Kiran Kumar, from Bengaluru. He had duped victims in Dehradun and Nainital of nearly ₹87 lakh by posing as CBI and Mumbai Police officials.
Investigations revealed that the cybercriminals kept the victims on WhatsApp video calls for almost 48 hours, threatening them with false money-laundering and narcotics cases. Under pressure, the victims transferred money to multiple accounts.
Out of the total amount, ₹41 lakh was transferred to a Yes Bank account registered under “Rajeshwari GAK Enterprise”, operated by Kiran Kumar.
Police recovered three mobile phones, two SIM cards, several chequebooks, a laptop, and UPI scanner codes. The accused is wanted in over 24 cyber-fraud cases across India involving suspicious transactions worth nearly ₹9 crore.
Police are now probing his wider network and potential accomplices.
