Dehradun: A two-day academic and training program was organized at the Uttarakhand Space Application Centre (USAC) for Assistant Commandant–rank officers of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). The programme aimed to familiarize officers with USAC’s key activities and the use of drone technology in the defence sector.

During the training, officials received an overview of USAC’s space-based projects related to remote sensing, GIS, mapping, and disaster management. Experts from the Drone Application & Research Centre (DARC) also conducted sessions and live demonstrations on defence applications of drones.

Officers were trained in drone-based surveillance, live streaming, mapping, security applications, disaster response, basic drone operations, and simulator-based practices. Participants said the training would enhance the effectiveness of border and security operations.

USAC Director Prof. Durgesh Pant said that drone and space-based technologies are becoming crucial for security and disaster management, and such training boosts the technical proficiency of security forces.
