Dehradun: From this pilgrimage season, mobile phones and cameras will be completely banned inside the temple complexes of Uttarakhand’s Char Dham—Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath.

Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said the decision was taken after a review meeting, as the use of mobile phones and cameras was causing inconvenience and disruption during darshan. He said Char Dham Yatra is a sacred pilgrimage and devotees are expected to maintain its sanctity.

Pilgrims will be required to deposit their mobile phones and cameras before entering the temples, while photographs and videos can be taken after exiting the temple premises. The Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee has been directed to make proper arrangements for the safe custody of devotees’ devices.

Last year, more than 50 lakh devotees visited the four Dhams. The administration said the new rule aims to ensure smoother darshan, better crowd management and a more peaceful pilgrimage experience this season.
