In a recent quality assessment, 35 drug samples manufactured by Uttarakhand-based pharmaceutical companies have failed random testing, raising serious concerns about the quality of medicines produced in the state.

The Central Drug Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) has been conducting rigorous checks on the quality and standards of medicines across the country. In June, the CDSCO took samples from Uttarakhand-based pharma companies and found that five of these medicines did not meet the required standards. This failure is part of a broader issue, with 31 medicines nationwide also failing to meet quality standards.

In response, the CDSCO issued an alert and instructed state drugs controllers to take necessary action. Uttarakhand Drugs Controller, Tajber Singh, has ordered the recall of the sub standard medicine batches from the pharmaceutical companies involved. The affected companies are located in Roorkee, Haridwar, and Kashipur.

Over the past four months, Uttarakhand`s pharmaceutical industry has repeatedly fallen short of quality standards. In March, samples of 10 medicines failed, followed by 12 in April, eight in May, and five in June, totaling 35 failed samples.

This ongoing issue highlights significant challenges in maintaining the quality of pharmaceuticals produced in Uttarakhand, necessitating immediate and stringent measures to ensure public safety and restore trust in the region`s pharmaceutical products.
