In a move to modernize taxi services in Uttarakhand, the state government is set to develop its own mobile app, similar to Ola and Uber. Transport Secretary Brijesh Kumar Sant issued directives during a meeting with the Uttarakhand Taxi-Maxicab Federation to initiate the development of the app. The aim is to streamline and bring more transparency to taxi operations across the state.

The meeting also addressed the resumption of manual vehicle fitness checks in Dehradun. The Transport Secretary instructed officials to write to the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, citing a High Court order, to allow manual checks alongside automated testing. Earlier, the manual process was discontinued due to the establishment of an automated fitness center in Doiwala, which caused inconvenience to local taxi operators.

Another important discussion during the meeting focused on providing 15-day green cards to commercial vehicles from outside the state visiting Uttarakhand for the Char Dham Yatra. The Transport Secretary agreed to the proposal, and an official order is expected soon. Vehicles from within the state will continue to receive green cards valid for the entire yatra season as before.

With the launch of the government-run mobile app and new policies, taxi operations in the state are expected to become more efficient and user-friendly.
