Dehradun: In a significant move to strengthen the higher education system in Uttarakhand, the state government has announced that all government universities will now operate the Samarth Portal independently. The role of the state administration will be limited to monitoring the portal.

This announcement was made by Higher Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat during a departmental review meeting held at the Vidhan Sabha premises on Monday. Dr. Rawat stated that universities will now be responsible for managing admissions and all academic and administrative activities via the portal. He added that the decision was taken in light of various issues encountered during the portal’s operation last year.

Unified Academic Calendar Across Universities
Dr. Rawat directed all vice-chancellors to collaborate and prepare a unified annual academic calendar to ensure that admissions, examinations, and results are conducted uniformly and in a timely manner across colleges and university campuses.

To promote academic discipline, he emphasized the need to conduct a minimum of 180 teaching days per academic session and enforce 75% student attendance as mandatory. He also instructed officials to undertake extensive publicity campaigns to increase awareness about undergraduate and postgraduate admissions.

Prompt Appointments for Vacant Positions
The minister directed the Director of Higher Education to hold Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meetings within a week to fill vacant principal positions in government colleges. Additionally, he ordered that a subject-wise report of vacant assistant professor positions be submitted to the department within three days for swift recruitment.
