Dehradun: A total of 24 drug samples manufactured in Uttarakhand failed quality tests in the April 2026 report of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), raising concerns over medicine quality in the state.

According to the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA), 866 inspections were conducted between January 1 and May 23, during which 419 drug samples were collected. Out of these, 43 were found to be “Not of Standard Quality” (NSQ), leading to the suspension or cancellation of licences of 40 pharma manufacturing units.

The failed medicines included drugs used for fever, cold, blood pressure, acidity and diabetes treatment. Authorities have ordered the recall of the failed batches and initiated action against the companies involved.

Recently, the STF also exposed a fake medicine racket operating from Bhagwanpur and Kotdwar, where counterfeit medicines of reputed brands were allegedly being supplied to multiple states.
