The Uttarakhand government has decided to make the 108 emergency ambulance service more efficient and streamlined. Currently, 272 ambulances are operational in the state, and this number will be increased to 334 to ensure backup ambulances are available in every district, improving emergency medical services.

The government has set different response times for hilly and plain areas. In hilly regions, ambulances must arrive within 18-20 minutes, while in plains, the response time is set at 15 minutes. Additionally, patients will receive real-time location updates of the ambulance, making it easier for them and their families to track its arrival.

If an ambulance fails to reach within the stipulated time, the service provider will face a threefold penalty. Moreover, strict action will be taken against drivers or medical staff found misbehaving with patients.

Patients will now be transported to the hospital in the same ambulance, eliminating the need to switch vehicles mid-route. To facilitate this, additional backup ambulances will be deployed in every district.

Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat has instructed officials to enhance the reliability and efficiency of the 108 service, ensuring that the public receives the best possible emergency medical care.
