Uttarakhand is making history at the 38th National Games, not only with stellar athletic performances but also through its Green Games initiatives. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised the state’s commitment to sustainability, women’s health, and cultural promotion.

The Monal, Uttarakhand’s state bird, has been chosen as the official mascot, symbolizing environmental conservation. Medals made from e-waste, electric rickshaws, solar panels, and reusable water bottles reinforce the green message. A “Khel Van” (Sports Forest) will be planted with 1,600 Rudraksha trees to honor winning athletes.

Discarded sports equipment and e-waste have been transformed into artistic installations, including a giant tiger sculpture, promoting waste reduction.

Bicycles at event venues encourage pollution control and health awareness, a key point highlighted by PM Modi during the inauguration.

A special welcome kit for female athletes, including sanitary pads, promotes menstrual health awareness—a first-of-its-kind initiative in the National Games.

For the first time, Yoga and Mallakhamb are included in the medal tally, a move successfully advocated by Uttarakhand.

Events are being hosted beyond major cities, in places like Tehri and Almora, while traditional Pahadi cuisine and Aipan folk art enrich the Games` cultural experience.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami lauded the initiatives, calling them a matter of pride for the state and a model for future sporting events.

With its innovative approach, Uttarakhand has set a new benchmark for sustainable and meaningful sports events in India.
