P.C. Batta Memorial Cricket Tournament 2025 Kicks Off at Kasiga
The 7th All India P.C. Batta Memorial Inter-School Cricket Tournament 2025 was inaugurated with great fervour at Kasiga School, Dehradun. The highly anticipated cricketing event has drawn premier schools from across India and continues to grow as a significant platform for young cricketing talent.
Established in memory of Shri Prakash Chand Batta, the tournament is the brainchild of Mr. Ramesh Batta, Chairman of Kasiga School and a veteran of Indian cricket with over 47 years of experience. The opening ceremony witnessed a spirited gathering, with the presence of Mr. Ramesh Batta, Director Mr. Siddharth Batta, Headmaster Mr. Rashid Sharffuddin, and Bursar Mr. Kamal Jindal, alongside coaches, umpires, and student-athletes.
This year’s edition features eleven top schools from Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Haryana. Group A comprises Welham Boys` School, Kasiga School, Wynberg Allen School, Tula`s School (all from Dehradun), and Woodstock School from Mussoorie. Group B includes K. Birla Centre of Education, Gyan Ganga School from Pune, Scindia School from Gwalior, MNSS from Rai, and SelaQui International School (Team B).
Matches are being hosted at the BCCI-approved Kasiga Cricket Oval, a professional-level ground known for staging national and international fixtures.
In his opening address, Chief Guest Mr. Ramesh Batta shared his lifelong passion for cricket and emphasized the value of sports in youth development. He acknowledged the logistical advantages enjoyed by day schools and cricket academies but commended the determination of boarding schools. “This tournament remains a celebration of true sportsmanship,” he said.
Headmaster Mr. Rashid Sharffuddin also praised the spirit of competition and reminded players of the core values of the game: “Cricket is a gentleman’s game, and we must always honour its values on and off the pitch.”
Day one featured two exciting matches. In the first, SelaQui International School triumphed over Welham Boys` School by 44 runs. In the second match, host school Kasiga put up a dominant performance, defeating Woodstock School by 81 runs. Kasiga’s Vikramaditya was named Man of the Match for his stellar all-round display, scoring 69 runs and taking three wickets.
The 15-day tournament promises intense action, sporting excellence, and cherished memories for all involved.
