Dehradun: Ahead of the Kanwar Yatra 2025, the Uttarakhand Government, under Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, has rolled out strict food safety regulations to protect the health of millions of pilgrims.

The State Health Department has made it mandatory for all food vendors, hotels, and dhabas along the Yatra route to display valid food licenses or registration certificates. Even small vendors and cart owners must carry and display their registration.

According to Health Secretary and Food Safety Commissioner Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar, failure to comply will invite legal action under Section 55 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, with penalties up to ₹2 lakh. All food establishments must also install Food Safety Display Boards indicating responsibility for food quality.

Zero Tolerance for Adulteration

The government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy toward food adulteration. Any compromise in food quality at camps or kitchens will lead to immediate legal action.

Sampling and Enforcement Drive

Special food safety teams have been deployed in Haridwar, Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, and Uttarkashi. These teams will collect samples of milk, sweets, oils, and beverages for testing. Outlets with substandard items will face closure and legal action.

Awareness & Grievance Redressal

The department is running awareness campaigns and urging citizens to report unsafe food on the toll-free helpline 18001804246.

Daily Monitoring

Daily district-level reports will be submitted to the government. Senior officials will oversee implementation, and any negligence will result in disciplinary action.

The government has appealed to all religious groups, community kitchens, and vendors to maintain the sanctity of the Yatra by serving pure, hygienic, and safe food.
